I love where menswear is; itâ€™s modern, practical and easy for guys around the world to really grasp the concept of being fashion-savvy
The jewellery label, to give it its full name, â€˜The Static Animated Adventures of Nilplugâ€™, began in 2010. Nilplug is an illustrated character Iâ€™ve been drawing for many years. Heâ€™s my alter ego. His name refers to a philosophy of â€˜doing simple thingsâ€™ or â€˜doing things without mains powerâ€™.
I appreciate authentic and original fashion, a style for life, something that defines you. A quirky detail or even a mended fault can make a piece special. Craftsmanship appeals to me â€“ in an age of global retail markets, Iâ€™m pleased to see that thereâ€™s a place for businesses that put craft at the heart of things.
I believe that no one artistic form waits for the other. Itâ€™s the collisions between the different forms that result in the best creative accidents, so itâ€™s only natural that I listen to music while I work. My current collection explores the world of character art. Iâ€™m making flighty character companions with anthropomorphic appeal. I couldnâ€™t make them without music, itâ€™s music that brings them to life.
I heard a tune a couple of years ago that I think best sums up Nilplug â€“ â€˜Timeâ€™, from the LP â€˜Girl Catcherâ€™ by The Pachanga Boys. Itâ€™s motion music, it travels. Itâ€™s one of those tunes that can take you to the stars, if youâ€™re in the right mood. Then, on the way back down, Iâ€™d stick on some disco.
