I love where menswear is; it’s modern, practical and easy for guys around the world to really grasp the concept of being fashion-savvy

The jewellery label, to give it its full name, ‘The Static Animated Adventures of Nilplug’, began in 2010. Nilplug is an illustrated character I’ve been drawing for many years. He’s my alter ego. His name refers to a philosophy of ‘doing simple things’ or ‘doing things without mains power’.

I appreciate authentic and original fashion, a style for life, something that defines you. A quirky detail or even a mended fault can make a piece special. Craftsmanship appeals to me – in an age of global retail markets, I’m pleased to see that there’s a place for businesses that put craft at the heart of things.

I believe that no one artistic form waits for the other. It’s the collisions between the different forms that result in the best creative accidents, so it’s only natural that I listen to music while I work. My current collection explores the world of character art. I’m making flighty character companions with anthropomorphic appeal. I couldn’t make them without music, it’s music that brings them to life.

I heard a tune a couple of years ago that I think best sums up Nilplug – ‘Time’, from the LP ‘Girl Catcher’ by The Pachanga Boys. It’s motion music, it travels. It’s one of those tunes that can take you to the stars, if you’re in the right mood. Then, on the way back down, I’d stick on some disco.
