My work is inspired by human culture and the symbolism placed on objects that we wear
I first started making jewellery for myself when I was a teenager. It became a business when in my early twenties I made a necklace with some old hardware and everyone wanted one, so I went into production.
In 2001 I moved to Hollywood and set up shop. At that time I was also what I call a DIY-Circus Performer, making my own costumes with over-the-top tribal jewellery and leather accessories. Being in the entertainment industry, I met wardrobe stylists, costume designers, photographers, and entertainers, who used my work in projects calling for something unique and edgy, yet still elegant and refined. My clients are a diverse mix of all ages, shapes and sizes, races and ethnicities, sexuality, gender-identities, from famous to not so, and even some pets! I want people to feel empowered. I want them to wear it as an expression their personality.
I think knowledge of the latest trends is important in fashion but I try not to let it influence my work. I make jewellery as art first and fashion second. To me, style is an expression of one’s true personality, refined and projected outwards, not something you can access through someone else.
